WMSP Patroller of the Year Award

Outstanding patroller of the previous season.

Award Eligibility

Recipients must have completed at least one full season as a “red coat” alpine patroller.

Award Criteria

Awarded to the patroller who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, teamwork, and overall contributions to WMSP during the season.

Who May Nominate

Any active WMSP patroller may nominate a current active patroller for this award (candidates and Mountain Hosts are excluded).

Instructors, mentors, APR Training, and slope leaders will be specifically solicited to provide nominations.

Nomination Requirements

Nominations must include a written explanation describing why the nominee should receive this award for the season.

Selection Process

Selected by a vote of the stakeholders who were solicited for nominations (WMSP leadership team, APRs, instructors, and slope leaders).

Award Recognition

Plaque presented to the recipient and name engraved on the wall plaque located in the patrol room.

Instructor of the Year Award

Recognizing excellence in NSP instruction, mentorship, and leadership.

Award Eligibility

OEC, CPR, or OET Instructor.

Who May Nominate

Any active WMSP candidate or patrol member participating in any NSP instructional course (First Year, Second Year, Senior, or Mountain Host) may nominate an instructor for this award.

Nominations must include a written explanation describing why the nominee should receive this award.

Candidate of the Year / Rookie of the Year Award

Award Eligibility

Recipients must be a first-year patroller candidate who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and teamwork qualities that make them stand out in a positive and influential way to their fellow candidates, instructors, mentors, and other patrollers.

Who May Nominate

Any active WMSP patroller may nominate a candidate for this award.

Instructors, mentors, APR Training, and slope leaders will be specifically solicited to provide nominations.

Nomination Requirements

Nominations must include a written explanation describing why the nominee should receive this award.

Selection Process

Selected by a vote of the stakeholders who were solicited for nominations (candidate instructors, slope leaders, mentors of candidates, and APR Training).

Award Recognition

Plaque presented to the recipient and name engraved on the wall plaque located in the patrol room.

Slope Leader of the Year Award

Recognizing exceptional leadership, coordination, and service as a Slope Leader during the award year.

Award Eligibility

Nominees must have served as a Slope Leader during the year for which the award is being given.

Who May Nominate

Any active WMSP patroller may nominate a Slope Leader for this award.

Nomination Requirements

Nominations must include a written explanation describing why the nominee should receive this award.

Shift of the Year Award

Recognizing a shift that demonstrated exceptional teamwork, professionalism, and patrol excellence.

Who May Nominate

Any active WMSP patroller may nominate a shift for this award.

Nomination Requirements

Nominations must include a written explanation describing why the shift should receive this award.

Selection Process

Selected by the Board, PR, and APRs.

Alumni of the Year Award

Recognizing outstanding continued support, leadership, and contributions from a WMSP Alumni member.

Award Eligibility

Alumni status is defined as any patroller no longer serving on Active duty. Any patroller who has served for one or more years may move to Alumni status.

Who May Nominate

Any active WMSP patroller or WMSP Alumni member may nominate a WMSP Alumni for this award.

Nomination Requirements

Nominations must include a written explanation describing why the nominee should receive this award.

Selection Process

Selected by the Board and PR Assistants.

Award Recognition

Plaque presented to the recipient and name engraved on the wall plaque located in the patrol room.

Walter T. Stopa Outstanding Service Award

Honoring extraordinary long-term dedication and service to the Wilmot Mountain Ski Patrol and Wilmot Mountain.

Award Eligibility

Twenty-five (25+) or more years of outstanding service to the Wilmot Mountain Ski Patrol and Wilmot Mountain.

Note: This is a one-time award.

Who May Nominate

Any active WMSP patroller may nominate an eligible individual for this award.

Service Verification

Years of service will be determined by the elected PR or their designate using WMSP membership records in conjunction with NSP membership records.

Award Recognition

Nan Meyer Emerging Leader Award

Recognizing exceptional emerging leadership within the Wilmot Mountain Ski Patrol.

Award Eligibility

Patrollers under the age of 30 who have demonstrated outstanding emerging leadership in WMSP.

Note: This is a one-time award.

Award Background

This award is named after Nan Meyer, a long-time member of WMSP. Nan was a patrol legacy who joined the patrol as a young adult. She remained an active member throughout her lifetime and demonstrated outstanding leadership from an early age—holding positions on the Board and serving two terms as Patrol Representative.

Patroller’s Cross Award

Recognizing a patroller who sustained an injury while fulfilling patrol duties.

Award Eligibility

Any active WMSP patroller who sustained an injury while performing official patrol duties.

Who May Nominate

Any active WMSP patroller may nominate a patroller for this award.

Nomination Requirements

Nominations must include a written explanation describing why the nominee should receive this award.

Approval Process

Approved by the Board, PR, and APRs.

Certificate of Appreciation

Award Eligibility

Any active WMSP patroller or non-member contributing to WMSP – including Leadership (slope leaders, advisors, APRs, Board Service, etc.), Administration (roster management, records & hours, recruiting, etc.), Training (OEC, OET, CPR, Patroller 101, etc.) and Other (any acts of service to be recognized at the local level including fundraising, guest service, etc.).

Who May Nominate

Any active WMSP patroller may nominate a someone for this award.

Nominations must include a written explanation describing why the nominee should receive this award.
